Hurling Section

After 12 months operating as Celtic Hurling Club, the Hurling section will be back officially under the Cootehill Celtic GAA banner this year.

Two motions were passed at the County Convention in December 2011 allowing players from non-hurling clubs to play Hurling for Cootehill Celtic without need for transfers or any problems of eligibility, while still playing football with their home club. Up to this point, this was not possible requiring the need for the separate Celtic Hurling Club.

Essentially this means hurling will operate as a sub-committee of the club under the control, guidance and most importantly with the help of the Executive Committee of Cootehill Celtic GAA.

Currently there are Hurling teams from Under 8 up to Minors and Hurling in Cootehill has become of the leading lights in the recent revival of the sport in Cavan at underage level.

The club are also well represented on Cavan’s Minor Hurling team both on and off the field with at least 10 players involved in the panel and club members Gary Kiernan (Coach) and Seamus Hughes (Selector) also on board.
