All-Ireland Qualifier First Round: Cavan v Longford

24th June 2011

Cavan Senior joint Managers Val Andrews and Terry Hyland have made 3 changes to the side which started in the defeat to against Donegal two weeks ago.

Thomas Corr, Martin Cahill and Mark McKeever all come into the side to play Longford tomorrow evening in Kingspan Breffni Park.

Denn duo Thomas Corr and Martin Cahill come for Dermot Sheridan and Patrick Carroll in a straight swap in the full back line while Mark McKeever will line out in place of the suspended Ray Cullivan.

There are also a number of positional switches made as Niall Murray moves forward from the half back line to take a wing forward position with Gearóid McKiernan moving into the vacant mid-field spot which leaves Gowna man McKeever in the wing back position.

Cootehill Senior Captain McCutcheon remains at centre-back after being one of Cavan's better performers the last day out.

The changes add a bit more experience to what is still a relatively young Cavan side which will be hoping for a much improved performance against near nCavan have it all to do against Longfordeighbours Longford.

The Leinster side ran NFL Division Two Finalists Laois very close in their opening game of the Championship and were just a point adrift at the final whistle.

Longford came into that Laois match on the crest of a wave having gained promotion to the third tier of the NFL and also captured the Division Four title at the expense of a useful Roscommon.

Given their success in the Spring and the contrasting performance in their respective Championship games, Longford have been installed as the bookies' favourites and have been predicted to advance to the Second Round by both the RTÉ and Hoganstand websites.

So Cavan have it all to do if they are to cause a upset and beat the Glen Ryan Managed Longford team. The game will throw in at 5pm.

Cavan Team v Longford: James Reilly; Martin Cahill, Thomas Corr, Dane O'Dowd; Mark McKeever, John McCutcheon, Damien O'Reilly; David Givney, Gearóid McKiernan; Fergal Flanagan, Micheal Lyng, Niall Murray; Niall McDermott, Eugene Keating, Seán Johnston.

The Cavan Longford game acts as a curtain raiser to the mouth-watering clash of Louth and Meath which starts at 7pm. This re-run of the highly controversial 2010 Leinster SFC Final will be televised live on RTÉ 2.

Given the large crowds expected, there has been some Traffic Advice and Information made available which can be viewed here.
