Intermediate Championship Draw Made

The draw for the Hotel Kilmore Intermediate Championship was made last Tuesday at the Monthly County Board meeting. The Celts came out of the hat in Group 1 of this year's championship in a tough looking group with plenty of derbies on the cards. Two of last year's semi-finalists, Knockbride and Bailieboro Shamrocks, will join next door neighbours Drung in a very competitive group. The top two in this and all 4 groups will advance to the quarter finals and the first round of games will take place over from July 21-24, with times and venues to be released closer to the dates.

Knockbride were victors over Drumgoon in last year's quarter-final before being defeated at the semi-final stage by eventual winners Drumalee who had beaten the Celts in the previous round.

Bailieboro and Cootehill met in the group stages of last year's championship playing out a draw up in Kingscourt. The Shamrocks came up against their neighbours Killinkere in the quarter-finals and a win there saw them come up against championship favourites Drumlane in the semis. Baileboro were unlucky not to win at the first asking with a last Drumlane point sending the fixture to a replay where Drumlane eventually came out on top.

Drung had a poor season in 2010 when compared to their high standards set in '08 (Junior Championship Winners) and '09 (Intermediate semi-finalist beaten by Cootehill) but no doubt will be looking to set that right this season. As ever with a close derby game anything can, and usually does, happen so form and performance from last season will matter very little.

In Group 2 Killeshandra, Killinkere, Butlersbridge and All-Ireland Junior Championship Finalists Swanlinbar will meet while in a very tough looking Group 3 already termed the "Group of Death" in certain circles Ballyhaise, Drumlane, Cavan Gaels, Drumgoon will face off. In the final group Crosserlough, relegated from the Senior Championship last year, will play neighbours Ballymachugh with Kill Shamrocks and Laragh United completing the group.
