20th December 2011 The Ulster Council have introduced a Season Ticket for the 2012 Power NI Dr McKenna Cup which begins in early January. This is the first time an offer has been available for the early season Provincial competition. The new Season Ticket will cost £20 or €25 and will give you access to Round 1, 2 and 3 games involving your county and then Speaking at the launch of the first-ever Power NI Dr McKenna Cup Season Ticket, Ulster GAA President Aogán Ó Fearghail said, “We are delighted to launch our first ever Season Ticket for the Power NI Dr McKenna Cup. And have no doubt that it will be a good seller across all nine counties in Ulster. Launching it now means it’s just in time for that special gift for the GAA enthusiast this Christmas. “We decided to launch a season ticket in response to the hard economic climate that our members are facing. The Season Ticket will provide a potential saving per person of over 60% for the Power NI Dr McKenna Cup competition. That’s a significant saving and one we hope will be attractive to many Gaels.” Malachy McVeigh from Power NI, the new name for NIE Energy commented, “Power NI is delighted to sponsor the 2012 Dr McKenna Cup, a successful and historically significant competition in the GAA calendar. As Northern Ireland’s longest serving electricity supplier we have been powering homes and business for decades, supporting communities and offering great value for money. We’ll continue to put all our energy into our customers and our communities. We wish all teams the best of luck throughout the competition and eagerly await the first round on 8th January.” The Dr. McKenna cup will see all 9 Ulster counties plus 3 college sides – St. Mary’s, Belfast; Queens, and UUJ – placed in three groups. The winner of each group along with the best placed overall runner-up will qualify for the semi-finals of the competition. Cavan have been drawn in Group C along with Donegal, Derry and UUJ. The Bre Reigning Ulster Champions and All Ireland Semi-finalists Donegal will travel to Kingspan Breffni Park on Sunday 15th January for Round 2 again at 2pm – interestingly these two meet in the Ulster Championship later on in 2012. Cavan will play UUJ in the final round in Kingspan Breffni Park in a mid-week fixture on Wednesday 18th at 7.30pm. Cavan made the semi-finals of this competition in 2011 but were beaten 2-11 to 0-14 by Tyrone in Brewster Park Enniskillen and then Derry went on to win the final by a single point.
