19th May 2012 Sunday 20th May will see the start of the Ulster Minor and Senior Championships with Cavan taking on Donegal in Kingspan Breffni Park. Sunday is also a proud day for Cootehill Celtic GAA as there will be 4 clubmen lining out on Championship duty in the blue of Cavan – John McCutcheon and Joshua Hayes with the Seniors and Tom Hayes and John Carney with the Minors.
The club hasn’t been so well represented in County colours for a very long time and is a perfect example of the progress being made on the playing field in recent years. Tom has been involved with the Minor panel for the last number of months and performed well during the Ulster Minor League – the highlight being scoring 2-1 against Down in Newry. While John Carney was drafted into the panel after his excellent performances for the club’s Minors especially in their Division 3 semi-final. John McCutcheon has been involved with Cavan Seniors for the last number of years and re-joined the Terry Hyland managed panel recently after leaving under Val Andrew’s management during the National Football League. Joshua made some eye-catching performances for his college side UCD in the O’Byrne and Sigerson Cups – especially against All-Ireland Champions Dublin and was subsequently was called into the Cavan Senior squad. Cavan – the reigning Minor Ulster Champions – will play Donegal in the curtain-raiser which will start at 1.45pm and the Seniors will play the 2011 Ulster Champions and All-Ireland semi-finalists Donegal afterwards at 3.30pm. Best of luck lads and to the rest of the Cavan men! |
