Cootehill Celtic Club Notes - 21^st February

SENIORS

The Seniors opened their Division 2 League campaign in disappointing fashion on Sunday with a two point defeat to Killinkere in Hugh O'Reilly Memorial Park. In a wasteful performance, the Celts kicked a large number of wides which certainly led to their downfall having led by one point (0-3 to 0-2) at half time. But it was the visitors who were the better side after the break and were winners on seven point to five score line.

The Seniors will play Round 2 this Sunday against Kill Shamrocks at 2pm away in Rathluden. Best of luck lads!

MINORS

The Minor footballers played Mullahoran in Our Lady of Lourdes Park on Saturday afternoon in Round 2 of the league. After a promising opening half which saw the Celts ahead by four points at the break but the stronger home side fought back and a flurry of late saw Mullahoran run out convincing winners on a 3-17 to 2-9 score line.

The Minors are back in action this Saturday in Round 3 against Blackwater Gaels (Maghera, Munnterconnacht and Mountnugent) at 3pm in Hugh O'Reilly Memorial Park. Best of luck lads. Full match report available on our website.

MEMBERSHIP

The membership is now due for this season and can be paid to club registrar Kieran McCarville or any of the committee members. Family membership (2 adults and any number of children under 18) is €60; Juvenile membership is €5; Student membership is €10 and adult is €25. Membership is also available online…

UNDER 12s

The Under 12s will begin their season this Saturday in the first game of their Spring League with a home fixture against Lavey in Hugh O'Reilly Memorial Park at 12 noon. Best of luck lads!

HURLING

Congrats to the Under 14 Hurlers who won the Feile Competition on Saturday afternoon on the 3G pitch in Kingspan Breffni Park.

The lads won on a 3 points to nil score line and amazingly they never conceeded either a goal or a point throughout the whole competition which saw wins over Mullahoran (quater-final), East Cavan (semi-final) and St. Felims in the final.

Well done to all involved and the youngsters will now compete in the National Feile Competition in Dublin in the summer.

SCOR

After a long lay off, the Scór section of the club is back in action!! Already this year the club were represented in Ulster Final of Scor Trath na gCeist by Jimmy McBride, Kevin og Carney, Oliver Mc Caul and Fiona O'Hea up in Eglish Co.Tyrone. More recently, congratulations to Club Chairman Larry Mc Cluskey who got through to the county final of Scór with his rendition of The Bishop’s Sermon from ”The Field”. The final will be held in Mullahoran this Friday, 24th February at 8pm.

EVENTS CALENDAR

Among the many changes to the website in recent days, the Events Calendar is sure to be a valuable and popular addition. The calendar features a range of events including matches, conferences, workshops, clotto draws and many more across all levels of the GAA from Cootehill Celtic senior and underage games to Cavan games and Ulster Council events. Some of the fixtures are already in place as far into the future as September (albeit provisionally) so make sure and check out here as the Event Calendar will be updated regularly.

Don't forget that you or your family can support Cootehill Celtic GAA wherever you are in the world by playing our weekly clotto online on our website! Even if you don't use it yourself, spread the word to friends and family as it is a vital source of income for the club.

The numbers for this week's draw took place last Monday in Hughie Greenan's were 6, 11, 17 and 27. There was no winner of the Jackpot but the five weekly winners are: Daragh Nutly; Brendan Brady, Stradone; Kate McCluskey; Caroline Delaney; and Sean Carney.

Next week's Jackpot will be worth €2,900 and the draw will be held in Hannigan's Arms at 8.30pm on Monday 27^th. Please note earlier time of draw. Everyone welcome! Thanks to all for your continued support
